Discovering Geography through Literature: South Sudan Unit Study

$12.50

I love using great literature to teach concepts, especially geography. One of my favorite things is to go beyond the pages of a book and apply it to the world around me. Stories are great for teaching concepts in a natural way and pulling students in. Using literature to teach geography takes it beyond the map and allows kids to immerse themselves in the culture and see the world how others do. As you use this South Sudan study, feel free to pick the parts that appeal to you and your kids. Do it all or do a little. It is designed to cover multiple subjects: History, Geography, Language Arts, STEM, Fine Arts, and Devotional.

Students will learn a brief history of South Sudan and participate in a STEM project to help them understand one of the many trials the South Sudanese face.  They will also complete a fine arts project to create a popular African game.  In addition, there is map work, writing prompts, and reflection questions.
