Bedtime Read-Aloud

I snapped this picture at bedtime.  Every evening we charge one of our older girls to read to the little girls.  Sometimes if all the older girls are gone Haydn will step in.

All of our kids have always liked being read aloud to.  It is a special part of our bedtime routine and one that rarely gets skipped.

As they get older and become fluent readers, they tend to read on their own at bedtime.  But regardless of age, they all still like a good read aloud.

This particular evening Olivia and Lenora were finishing up a snack and so Allie, as the chosen sister for the evening, began reading downstairs.  Within moments, my other children gathered round to listen.  There was nothing special about the book.  Just one we picked up at the library.  But there is a magic that happens when words get read aloud and stories shared.

Tender moments like these are my favorite.  Family read alouds are a great way to make memories and encourage a love of books.
