Psst. Did you hear? Our favorite hands-on literature-based curriculum added a virtual component.

I know! We were just as stoked to hear about BookShark Virtual.

What is BookShark Virtual?

If you haven’t heard the news, let me share it with you now. BookShark Virtual is meant to work as a companion to your original BookShark curriculum. You’ll still need to purchase the books and manuals, but now you have the option to add a virtual seat as a complement to the curriculum.

The virtual seat gives you access to cool online features like grading, assessment, and accountability. And you can access it via desktop or mobile.

Here are some of the reasons I’ve liked having a virtual seat with BookShark Virtual.

Do Away With Paper Clutter with BookShark Virtual

I despise paper clutter. This is unfortunate because homeschooling tends to generate quite a bit.

I do my best to keep it contained, but there are no promises.

With our virtual seat, I can have my daughter download the worksheet from her account, print it off, and then once she’s finished I upload a picture of the completed worksheet. Once that’s done, I can get rid of it. Guilt-free! Because I have a copy saved online for me.

Access the Instructor’s Guides Anywhere

One of my favorite parts is having access to the Instructor’s guide online. Being able to view it where ever I am, whether on my laptop or mobile is a huge benefit.

Sometimes I just need a quick reminder of what lab supplies I need to provide or what our upcoming lessons are about.

It also means, if we’re taking our lessons on the road, I don’t have to bring my entire binder! Because we all know, that is not travel friendly. With BookShark Virtual, we have access to all the lesson plans, assignments, and experiment pages. I just need to bring whatever books we need.

Great for Kids Who Don’t Like to Write

If you have a child who prefers typing over handwriting, then they will like the virtual seat option.

While some of the pages still require the child to fill them out by hand, the experiment questions can be answered online.

On the downside, if your child can’t type yet, they won’t be able to work independently, so you’ll have to decide if you prefer to type their answers for them.

Online Grade Keeping with BookShark Virtual

The other benefit is the ability to assign tasks and keep track of grades online. If you have multiple children working through the same level, this would be very beneficial. Being able to assign lessons to all kids at once and have grades in one place is super convenient with BookShark Virtual.

Who’s Going to Love BookShark Virtual?

What families are going to want to add a virtual seat to their BookShark curriculum? Families who:

  • Roadschool
  • Prefer an online structure
  • Are required to keep a portfolio
  • Have multiple children doing the same level
  • Are part of a co-op using BookShark
  • Have students who like to work independently
  • Want mobile access

But you know what? You don’t have to take my word for it. The first three weeks of every Virtual course are available for free! Watch the demo videos to get your bearings, then take it for a spin and see if it’s the right fit for your family.
