The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls review

Secret of the Hidden Scrolls Series Overview

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls is a historical fiction series geared for elementary aged kids.

This series follows siblings Mary, aged ten and Peter, aged nine, along with their dog Hank. With the guidance of their Great-Uncle Solomon and some special scrolls, Mary and Peter travel back in time to some important events in the Bible. Each book covers an individual event.

While there, the siblings help to make sure events unfold the way they are meant. This means working to discover the secret of the scrolls. The scrolls contain valuable information they need to thwart Satan’s plan to ruin it all, in addition to an important truth about God.

But there’s a catch! They can’t tell anyone they are from the future and they must learn the scrolls secret before their time runs out. If they fail, they will stay trapped in the past forever!

Let’s Take a Look at the Two Newest Books

(If you are new to the series, you can read my review of books 3 and 4 here.)

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Shepherd’s Stone (Book Five)

The Shepherd’s Stone tells the story of David and his defeat of Goliath. Mary and Peter help keep the Soldier of Darkness from stabbing David in the back before he has the chance to defeat the giant, Goliath.

While doing so, they learn that David’s bravery comes from his trust in the Lord. And just in time they learn the scrolls secret: Fear not. God is bigger than any problem.

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Lion’s Roar (Book Six)

The Lion’s Roar tells the story of Daniel in the lion’s Den. In it the siblings befriend Hannah, the granddaughter of Shadrach. While hiding them from the High Priest who wishes to harm them, she introduces them to Daniel.

When Daniel gets thrown into the lion’s den for praying, Mary and Peter go to check on him. They decide to pray for God’s help and get caught by the High Priest, who pushes them into the den with Daniel.

The angel, Michael appears in the den to help protect them and sings the lions to sleep. Mary and Peter solve the scroll’s secret while in the den: God is in control.

Ignite Their Desire to Learn More

These books may be fiction, but the stories they are drawing from are true. These books do a good job at reminding us that the Bible stories are about real people. Real people who at times risked their life to follow God.

Bible adventure series for kids--WorthyKids Books

Once your kids interest has been piqued by Mary and Peter’s adventure, the author directs them to the books and chapters in the Bible where they can read the account of what happened for themselves. Perhaps, they will see the story in a new and more interesting light. Or maybe their curiosity will be ignited and they will begin to ask more questions about just who these people were, how they lived, and why they chose to follow God.
