Preparing Teens for Life After High School

What do you want to be when you grow up?

This is the question of the ages. One we begin asking kids before they even learn to spell their name and one some adults are still trying to answer.

When I was a teen, the beginning, middle, and end of that plan consisted of “going to college.” For some odd reason, that answer was considered sufficient for many adults. But going to college, should not be the end goal for our teens. It should only be a step towards their ultimate goal, and then only if it is actually necessary.

So, how do you know if it’s necessary?

What does your teen want to be when they grow up? What does life after high school look like? But most importantly, how can you help them prepare for the adventure that awaits them?

Preparing Your Teen for Life After High School

Homeschooling provides a unique opportunity when it comes to preparing our teens for life after high school. We can tailor curriculum to their interests, have them take dual-enrollment classes, or find applicable volunteer opportunities.

And more likely than not, we have given at least a thought or two toward teaching the life skills teens will need to be successful once they have moved beyond the four walls of our home.

One of those skills is teaching our children how to take charge of their future. To be an agent who acts instead of one who is acted upon.

Launch Your Teen with Voyage

When I think of launching my teen, I envision an arrow as opposed to a boomerang. I want to launch them far and see them succeed. I don’t want them returning home because they were not sufficiently prepared.

Voyage is a great tool to have in your launch belt. My teen enjoys the autonomy it gives her and the boost of confidence knowing she’s taking charge of her future.
