Hey, Mama! Schoolhouse Planner

Whether your school year has ended or will soon, no doubt next school year is already floating around in the back of your mind somewhere and you’re looking for a place to write it all down. The Old Schoolhouse® sent us a copy of their Hey, Mama! Schoolhouse Planner for 2019/20 Year to review and use as our place to write it all down.

Hey, Mama! Devotionals

What sets this Schoolhouse Planner apart are the devotionals, written by Gena Suarez, and woven throughout the planner. These messages of inspiration and encouragement were my favorite part. Homeschooling is hard work! At times it can be discouraging. How great then to have little pick-me-ups sprinkled into your daily planner?

One of my favorite quotes was from the devotional titled “Fail Days.” It reads,

“. . .You’re a daughter of the King, on the path where He placed you, for His purposes.”

What a wonderful reminder of who we are and why we are where we are!

There are twenty-one devotionals total. Plenty to read and re-read throughout your year as you need it.

Schoolhouse Planner Layout

The layout of the planner is fairly straightforward and simple. There is information on creating an academic transcript right at the beginning, along with related forms. Next are year-at-a-glance calendars from 2019-2021.

Following this are the monthly calendars with notes and the devotionals.

I will mention that the month of November has some creative numbering. The right side of the calendar is correct, but the left side is off. You will need to come prepared with whiteout or a pen to fix it, but it’s not too big an issue.

Curriculum Planning Pages

Next are the weekly planners, which has spaces for five children and seven subjects. While this is still less space than children for me, for most it will probably be plenty.

The last section of the planner is set aside as a dedicated place to plan for each individual child.

There is a full sheet at both the beginning and the end of each child’s section where you can jot down notes or other thoughts pertaining to that child.

Next, is a Curriculum Planning sheet. It includes places for the subject, grade level, curriculum, price, vendor and even contact. This would be especially beneficial information to take to a homeschool convention.

Following is a page to track attendance and on the opposite spread, a place to keep track of books read during the year.

There are finally three pages that pertain to goals for each child–yearly goals and first and second semester goals.

The goals are divided into seven different categories:
  • Educational
  • Spiritual
  • Physical
  • Personal Talents
  • Life Skills
  • Financial
  • Relational

I did like that there was a goals page for each child and that it was broken into categories. It is so important to remember to set goals for your school year and a good reminder that they do not all have to be academic. I also liked that it was broken down by year and semester, so that there was a place to assess and make changes if necessary.

This Schoolhouse planner will work best for the mom who likes to keep it simple. If you are wanting a place to plan the rest of your life (meals, chores, etc) as well, then this is probably not the planner you want.

The Hey, Mama! Schoolhouse Planner is 98% sold out, so you will want to act fast if you are interested.
