This birthday boy turned nine this month.  Nine.  The last single digit age.  Next year comes double digits and tween-ness, so we’re going to do our best to make this year count.

Haydn’s birthday fell on a rather busy Saturday, so celebrations got a bit scattered with birthday lunch and presents on Friday, cake on Sunday and a party I still need to plan.

As his birthday wish list was comprised mostly of DS games, we compromised and got him one along with his other gifts.  His two favorite gifts he received was a new (and better) chess set and a Spiderman skateboard.

Ellawyn has enjoyed challenging him in chess and the two are pretty evenly matched.  Lenora is a bit jealous of his skateboard and Olivia is trying to figure out how to get her own.  Lenora also tries to claim his watch he got when he isn’t wearing it.

Since we are in the midst of baseball season and short on time, I choose to go the simple route decorating and made him a baseball cake.

At nine, Haydn loves:

  • being a big brother, especially to his new little brother and to Lenora (She rather misses sharing a room with him.)
  • playing video games
  • chess
  • baseball, although outfield is not his favorite
  • the color blue
  • reading–he says it’s hard to pick a favorite, but if he had to choose it would be Harry Potter
  • math
  • Panda Express

Haydn is a bit of a goofball, who is constantly in motion and still thinks it isn’t fair that his sister’s don’t detest kisses as much as he does.  He enjoys wearing ties and suits to church and looking dapper, but he also frequently wears baseball pants as his regular attire.

We are excited to see what the next year holds for him.
