Looking for a Radio Station Geared Toward Children? {Review}

Have you heard about Smart Kidz Radio by Smart Kidz Media?  A free live streaming radio program geared towards children, Smart Kidz Radio features songs that promote positive virtues and values.

One of the nice things about this station is that since it is geared toward children, there is no worry about inappropriate commercials or songs with troublesome lyrics.  The songs are group by topics, such as songs that help you handle feelings appropriately, teach you to eat the right foods, or songs about how parents are people too.  The music was catchy and I liked that they spanned different musical genres, such as jazz.  Some were sung by adults and others by children or a combination of both.  You should note, that since it is live radio, even though there is a pause button, it does not pause the song, only the programming on your computer.  When you come back to it, it will be a different song.

There are also fairy tales available through their podcasts.  This was actually the part that my kids liked the best.  We would select a story, such as Little Red Riding Hood, and they would listen as they colored or did puzzles.  The stories were well told, using different voices for different characters and averaged about twenty minutes.  The one downside was that there was not a way to skip forward or backwards in the podcast.  We had one story that we had started and then needed to come back to and there wasn’t any way to skip to where we left off.

They do have an On Demand portion that will be available soon for a fee that would allow you access to hundreds of children’s songs and stories at your leisure.  This would be beneficial if you were teaching or learning a certain topic and wanted to be able to select specific songs.
